Quality Control Inspector
Job Summary
Perform in process inspection on products at various stages of production, to ensure customer specifications are being met and company quality standards are followed.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
- Inspect, test or measure materials or products being produced / finished
- Ensure adherence to ISO internal procedures
- Assist in creation of procedures, forms, document, and process maps
- Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) and in process inspections
- Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service. Investigate (and correct) customer issues and complaints relating to quality
- Daily walk through throughout shop (Fab, Paint, and Shipping) spot checking work and looking at overall quality.
- Ensure that all the quality check procedures put in place are followed during every production phase
- Create comprehensive documentation for quality issues and note the corrective actions that were taken
- Notify team leads of defects; assist in analyzing, identifying, and correcting the underlying issue
- Educate production team on quality issues, and work with team leads to improve overall product / process quality
- Reconcile final inspection documentation for shipments
- Monitor operations to ensure they meet production standards
- Recommend adjustments to production process
- Accept or reject finished items
- Discuss inspection results with team members responsible for products
- Strictly adhere to QMS standards
- Ensure part quantities match routing
- Maintain ECR process
- Interact and assist with cross training efforts of employees. Make sure they are trained properly. Spot check work and provide guidance
- Maintain/Manage calibration system
- Assist Continuous Improvement and 6S efforts
- Ability to operate forklifts and pallet jacks as needed
- Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills including ability to promptly give and follow directions when working with others
- Experience using calipers, tape measure, and various shop tools
- Ability to handle multiple projects at any given time
- Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office & ERP systems
- Flexible and dependable. Able to switch areas instantly if needed.
- Track individual and/or company (KPIs) / metrics. Strive for daily improvements

Academic Competencies
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience with on-the-job inspection in metal fabrication industry
Workplace Competencies
- Extensive metal fabrication blueprint reading and the ability to interpret and analyze specification and tolerances
- Strong understanding of raw materials (various metals, plastics, hardware, etc.)
- Must be able to effectively solve problems and troubleshoot
- Must be proficient in Mathematical Skills
- Flexible and adaptable to customer and business changes
- Must be able to communicate well with employees, department leads and senior management
- Must be able to manage time wisely
- Assures compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State, and local codes, OSHA regulations and requirements
- Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 PPAP, APQP, 8-D, NCRs, GD&T, and First Article Inspections and Documentation FAI preferred.
- Work experience in a metal fabrication job shop environment a plus.
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
- Humidity level in factory may be elevated during summer months
Physical Demands
- This position requires continual use of your hands, considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials
- This position requires long periods of standing
- The use of safety equipment such as safety glasses, steel toed shoes, gloves, face shields, filtered masks and hearing protection is utilized daily
- This position requires lifting and maneuvering 50 lbs. without physical restrictions
- This is a 40 hour per week job (M-Thurs 5:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m) with occasional mandatory overtime
